Dyson DC04 - not spinning but still working

Options
I have a Dyson DC04 about seven years old, and I have noticed a lack of suction when using it flat on the floor, but not with the hose attachments.
I have just vacuumed the entire house, and I happened to notice that it is not spinning anymore (I am pretty sure that it used to).
Any ideas folks?
Is it dying or just severely disabled?

  • I remember years ago when we had original dyson that the drive belt broke (snapped) and we lost floor suction. It could simply be that that needs replacing.

Check, clean, or replace the filters.

I gave it a good clean a couple of weeks ago, but to my knowledge the filters have never been changed.:o
Would this affect the thing inside spinning though?

Check the drive belt to the brush bar. It's an easy fix.

The DC04 also has a system to redirect the suction from brush bar to hose when you move the handle into the upright position. Try using it flat on the floor and see if there is any suction from the hose - there shouldn't be.

Probably too late now, but Dyson have a troubleshooting section on their website which I used when I had the same problem. It turned out to be the belt, and it told you which one to order and how to fit it. It was really good - you could probably get the parts cheaper elsewhere, but I just ordered straight from the website so I knew I was getting the right thing. Cost me about £6 for two belts.

if you 've never changed teh filters you're in for a shock when you do. You'll feel like a new vac. Do them and your belt and it'll be back to normal.
