MBNA help

Hi everyone!

We had an MBNA credit card which we have now cleared with a balance transfer to Barclaycard (as recommended on this site!). We also had to pay our monthly minimum charge as the balance transfer was not through in time. We are now in credit on our MBNA card and phoned them today to get the money credited back to us and cancel the account. We have been told that there is still interest on this account and we have to phone them again on 8 October to find out what the interest charge is. I can't understand why we still owe them interest on an account that is in credit!!! Can anyone tell me if this is correct or are they at it???? Thanks and I look forward to hearing your comments.

  • It's normal and it's called "residual interest" and it can sometimes rollover into two months I believe (due to quirky dates etc). Best to wait and see, and ensure it's totally settled before closing it or it can cause hassle further down the line.
