Wireless Printer - Computer not Wireless!

Hi,

Hoping that someone could perhaps explain the workings of a wireless printer when your PC isn't wireless enabled.

I have Sky broadband and the PC is connected to the hub via a cable at present. I have just recently acquired an HP wireless printer and am going to try installing. Will it only work wirelessly if the PC is enabled for this and if so do I need to use a cable from PC to printer? Or does the sky hub get round this issue??

The printer is an HP Deskjet F4580.

Thanks for any advice.

LOL, this is what you get if the marketing department writes this stuff. :D

Once you have set the printer up and connected it wirelessly to your router/hub/switch then your wired PC can print to the printer.

I have a 4500 series HP, and it can work both wirelessly and via USB cable.

You need to connect it via USB for the setup routine, and if it's convenient for you to do so, you can just leave it connected and it will work happily this way.

In theory, you can connect to the printer via the hub, but I've found this can be unreliable, and I've resorted to plugging the printer USB cable into one or other of my PCs in order to print.

The HP instruction manual is less than helpful with regard to wireless connectivity issues, I've found.....

You have a network that is part wired and part wireless; the network is the combination of both, and things on the wired part can talk to things on the wireless part (and vice-versa).
(Assuming it is set up properly, of course!)
