Removing moss and algae from facing bricks

I have recently moved house. My new house (built 1982) has moss & algae growth on the bottom few courses of the facing bricks. This I'm sure is due to a combination of incorrect soil levels, incorrect 'falls' and water bounce from paving. Cosmetically this is not very appealing and I imagine not good for the brickwork due to moisture retention ? I am attending to these faults. What is the best way / best product to clean these bricks ? Once cleaned I intend to use Thompson's water seal (or similar) to discourage dampness in the brickwork. Any advice appreciated.

Scrape off the worst, then scrubbing with good old-fashioned Jeyes Fluid is usually a good ( and cheap ) solution.

Thanks, I was in B&Q Warehouse today looking for specalist brick cleaning 'gunk' (which I couldn't find) and I picked up a can of Jeyes fluid, it did mention cleaning off algae I think but nothing about moss, equally effective maybe. I will give it a try as it is not expensive.

I always use my jet power washer for anything like that,,been outside today and jetted the patio , it was very green with alga and slippery. I also jetted 3 courses of bricks on the conserevatory they were very dirty .....and you dont need to use any chemicals with the washer just water....job done..:D

the best products to use are specific 'algicides' that will leave a residue to reduce regrowth

or I suppose you could just google 'algae and moss killer' - this brings up pages and pages of links
