I got a job which I applied directly with the company (i.e. not a temp job). They need references from my latest employer. They have said if I work for an agency, they will need me to provide the agencies details.
How would temp agencies give references? (See below)
Option 1:
Joe Bloggs has worked as a temp worker for ABC Recruitment Ltd from (date) to (date) as a (position) with the client company XYZ Ltd.
Option 2:
Joe Bloggs has worked as a temp worker for ABC Recruitment Ltd from (date) to (date) as a (position) with the client company XYZ Ltd. For more details on the candidate's performance, please contact the cient company using the details below:

I do not believe they would give client company contact details. In fact I would doubt they would give the name of the client - temps work for the agency.0

Agencies usually send clients a feedback form to rate their temps on things like timeliness and whether the client would employ them again. I assume they would use sone of that feedback in the reference without referring to individual clients.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

I worked for an agency for 3 months earlier this year. However, I've put the direct person I worked with as a Reference. She offered and the jobs I'm going for are in relation to what I did there so I think it'd be more beneficial to myself that way.
But as someone else has said the agency will receive feedback from the client on you. Mine used to phone about once a week just to check in!0 -

Exactly the same as any employer would.0 -
By the looks of things, option 1 is the most likely option when writing a reference for the employer then....
Not sure if the employer wants a 'detailed' reference, but just want confirmation that I worked there before, etc... :S0 -
I work for a recruitment agency and company policy for refs on temps is to confirm just the employment dates - no placement/clients details are given.0

I see. Hopefully, my agency will have the same policy on giving out refs on temps.
Out of curiosity, why won't they put the client company that the temp has been placed?0 -
I put where I actually worked on my CV - as Ive done 3 longish contracts over the last 2 years through one agency and I think it helps to show the type of places you have worked (ie global orgs etc). When moving on from a contract Ive used the person I reported to at work as my referee (with their permission obviously).
A fortnight ago I was offered a position and I needed to cover the last 5 years for references so I gave the agency guys name to cover the whole 2 years then my previous referees as normal and offered the contact details for the companies I temped with to get a more 'complete' picture if required. The company sent out a template which was tick boxes so the agency and others would have a very easy job to do references. HTH
Edited to say, dont you want them to know where you've worked? Or am i reading that wrong?Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0
