What can we claim against tax???

Just bought our 1st flat last night in an auction!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaah!!!! Now it is half one in the morning and I cant sleep. Can anyone tell me what I can claim against tax as expenses. The flat is really nice but we want to freshen it up: paint everywhere, clean carpets, maybe have to buy fridge freezer and microwave - not sure yet. Do we keep receipts of all this and get it taken off our tax bill? What else do we need to tell taxman about? We want to do this right but are really not sure. Can any one keep us right?

Are you going to live in the flat? If so, I wouldn't have thought you could claim anything against tax or else I've missed a lot of tax claiming myself. Alternatively, I might be wrong and you may be an MP in which case I suppose you can claim for everything.

Is it a BTL? Sounds like it.

If you're going to live there, nothing.

If you're going to let it, all answers are here.
  • Thank you. yes it is a BTL. It was half one this morning - sorry. Not thinking straight. Mind it's half 6 and I'm up again. Thank you so much for that link. It looks like just what we need.
