Looking for Laser Printer Recommendations

We are looking to buy a new colour laser printer as our current Dell 3100CN is getting a bit old.

We are looking for something with a Network port and 2 paper trays if possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what printer offers the best quality/price ratio and that will last a long time.

Thanks

Like any printers the toners the key cost wise.

HP "Business level" printers are IMHO superb but they don't come cheap, but they run and run and run and you can get clone consumables.

HP Consumer level don't seem to be built as well, they work fine but genereally are slower and lower build quality. That said they are not £3k a printer.. :D

However at the end of the day remanufactured toner and cheap recycled paper has given me more issues than anything else in a printer. Forget the initial cost, look at long term ruinning costs of using genuine toner, it costs more but generally you get to use all the toner, not have the transfer drum flake out whilst it's still half full of toner.

If you want to go cheap Morgan computers (and others) are doing a Dell for £150 with two sets of toners, has network card but not two drawers. Also try your local Staples they may have things on clearance.

You need to decide what you want (A3? and duplex) and a budget before you decide, most HP business printers can be upgraded but it's cheaper to buy it from the start with the bits in.

Not sure if anyone has tried this company or if they are any good but it may be worthwhile investigating further and getting some feedback.

"This company" is IJT Direct, who took over Morgan Computers some time ago.-

IJT used to do no more than provide recycled and remanufactured cartridges and toners, but they now seem to sell a small range of printers, too...
  • Just a quick question, having seen you've got a dell printer, I've bid on a (very cheap) one on ebay, which the listing says one of the colour toners has run out, will this stop it from printing at all? I really only want to print in black and white.

Not if you just want to print in BW, but personally I would not want to touch a second hand laser as invariably the seller will most probably not take the toners out of the printer and wrap them up separately as not to damage the printer. I have seen too many printers written off due to toner spills whilst in transport.

Brother printers are great for toner prices, especially the compatible toner prices. Check the prices of toner on a website and go from there. Also, brother are quite business targeted so are generally network ready. See here for toner prices on brother printers.
