D Link router - how do you set the wireless security settings?

Hi
Im stuck so thought I would see if anyone can help. Ive got a desktop which the software for the D LInk router is loaded on, it is connected via a RJ45 lead. Ive also got a laptop which I use which has a wireless connection (cant be on the same time as the desktop or I get a IP conflict)however when I go to set the security settings on the laptop I seem to be able to set them but when I view the wireless connection it states unsecure. Does anyone know what to do im sort of lost now and want to use my laptop?????





DO I need to load the D Link software on the laptop & change the settings via the router in someway?

That is the only other thing I can think of - your help would be most welcomed as I really

No, you don't need to load the D-Link software - let Windows manage the wireless connection.

To configure wireless security, click here --> http://192.168.1.1 on your wired connection. Username is admin, password is admin. Go into wireless settings and enable Access Point and choose WPA-PSK encryption. Generate a password from https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm and paste it into the router screen.

Use a USB pen drive to save the password in a Notepad file on the laptop. If you don't have a pen drive, use a password that's easy to type in and change it to a more secure one later, when the desktop and laptop are networked.

On the laptop change LAN TCP/IP settings for wireless network to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'. Do the same for the LAN on the desktop. On laptop, connect to wireless network and enter password saved earlier.

Is there a save settings button on the web interface, if so you need to click it for the settings to be applied.

...and then restart the darned thing. Took me ages to figure that out for mine.
