Westcot & Virgin

Hi there,

A month ago I started being chased for subscription charges for Virgin TV/Broadband. I left the shared accommodation back in 2004, although my two flatmates continued to live there for another 6-8months. As far as I am aware, and unfortuntley, there was no change to the account holder name (which was me) and I am now being footed a bill for outstanding payments up to Feb 2010 (£89). I have called up Virgin directly to plead my case that I have not been at the property for the last 6 years, payment has not been taken from my cards and my flatmates have left 5 years ago. They have told me to write in to them to plead my case and they would investigate, which I did. Today, I received a letter from Westcot stating " As you are the named person on the bill, you are fully responsible for the outstanding balance. Any agreement made between yourself and a third party concerning liability is a matter that you must pursue direct, as legally we cannot contact a third party for payment"

In principle I would like not to pay as I never partook in any of the services. I can prove I have moved through the same means they managed to track me, via credit agencies. Is there any thing I can do to close this case without paying ? Any information that you can give me at this time would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Why didn't you cancel the contract that you agreed to pay every month when you moved out. Simple
  • Completely agree that would have been sensible, trust alone was not enough. Any other offerings to what my options are?

    Thanks

Well I dont think virgin will have anything to do with the bill now as its been passed to debt collectors. So try with westcot to reduce payment as sometimes they will do this, just make some story up or something ;). hope for the best although it wont be on your credit file so being me lol i would ignore it but...
  • If you can prove you moved out my advice is to dispute it...

So if you have a tenency agreement for your next place showing the day you moved in send it off along with a letter disputing the amount.

I had similar issues with tiscali even though i had informed them, repeatedly, that i had left a property!

Your other option (if you have the cash) is offer an immediate payment of between 33-50% of the amount in full & final settlement of the account. If they agree get it in writing that it is in F&F before paying..

    Good luck either way :)
