Who is really the cheapest?

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.
Basically, when you take into account line rental, an unlimited call plan, caller ID, 0845 numbers etc. Who are the cheapest land line providers?
I've been reading the forum and all companies seem to have offers and claim to be the cheapest. But then don't tell you it's extra for the likes of caller ID etc.
I have my broadband with virgin media, TV with sky and land line with BT. I also have a mobile with o2 so obviously would be able to get a bundle deal with those.
But which is really the cheapest?
Or would it be cheaper to go with someone like talktalk, primus?
I'd be happy to get rid of the landline because I always use my mobile, but it's needed for my mum's lifeline that can make outgoing calls(they need to be connected to a phone line at all times).
All advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

If it was possible to answer that question everyone would be with that one company !
It depends entirely on the number of calls you make, when you make them, who you make them to and whether you want to deal with just one company or several.
The cheapest line provider will not provide the cheapest calls; they may also restrict your access to, or charge you extra to access a cheap calls provider.
I read a "money saving" column in a newspaper on Sunday saying that it was best to switch from Company A to Company B on the grounds that the line rental was less, connection charge was less and cost per minute was less - what it didn't say was that by staying with Company A you could get free access to a provider whose connection fee was a much lower than either and his (UK) call charge was 0 (ZERO) p per minute or 6/7p to a mobile.
I am afraid articles like that just lead people up the garden path !
Somebody remarked on this site some time ago that energy pricing was "pricing by confusion" - telecomms has now reached the same state.

Thanks for the reply.
lol, very true.
I have no problem dealing with several companies. My mum's disabled and uses the phone rarely, but not during a specific time. She uses her mobile to call other mobiles. But she's still paying £10 per week on her BT payment card. She usually has some credit but surely there's a cheaper option for her.Sigless0
