Should survey have picked these things up?

Hi,

We recently bought a house and had a homeowners survey carried out on the property. Nothing was brought up by the survey.

Since we moved in we found damp on the chimney breast in our upstairs rooms and damp on the floorboards from a leaking pipe.

There was also an extension that had been built 2 years ago and we discovered that the radiators had not been connected and so there is no heating in those rooms.

We were just wondering if the survey should have found these things and if they should is there anything we can do?

Thank you!

Homebuyers report should have picked up the damp in my opinion. We have just had one and the surveyor picked up damp in a bedroom from a leak in roof but signs of damp on a ceiling from a previous leak to bathroom. There were lots of other things picked up from electrics to the front garden wall etc.

Homebuyers reports are often pages and pages of things wrong and when you first read read them you think the house you are buying is falling down:eek: After a good read though you find out the surveyor is covering his back most of the times. Therefore strange the surveyor has found nothing worng.

Also if its clear that the raidiators are not connected then they should have picked this up also. If they are conected and you would only know once the system is turned on then maybe reasonable for them not to pick it up.
  • Did you have a report or a full survey?
