Cannot get DVD player to play anything other than kids DVDs. It started the other day, just says disc not recognised or no disc depending on which one it is ... have tried about 20 DVDs. Oh it would also play Muriels Wedding. Can anyone help?
It's an LG with a hard drive too.

If it plays some but not others then a disc cleaner 'might' get it working again (Though I doubt it)
Whats the difference between the ones that play and the ones that dont? Regions? Parental age restrictions?:idea:0 -
I spent hours on this..........
Run a disk lense cleaner, or, open up the case swab with isopropyl on a cotton bud, then dry with other end.
If that doesn't work, grasp the laser assembly firmly between thumb and fore finger and push it back towards the spindle.
Finally get a multimeter and measure the ohms on the dvd pot, on said laser assembly and adjust accordingly, if none of the above work get angry smash the carp out of the dvd player and buy another one....
My HD dvd player was just out of warranty, it did exactly what you said, and I literally tried everything and spent hours trying to sort it out.
End of the day, you can buy a "Sony" BluRay player for under £120 and a DVD player for under £30 so why bother wasting your life away trying to fix it???
Hit it with a bloody big hammer, and think your self lucky you don't have an over analytical mind....;)To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
I bought an LG DVD recorder a few years ago & it did exactly the same thing just after it was out of warranty
eventually after much messing around, like tomsolomon
we gave it up as a bad job & now only use it for recording the odd (very rare) thing I want to catch on telly
we have Sony Blu Ray players now, they're multiregional for DVDs & play everything we throw at them, no more LGs
probably not what you want to hear
but seriously, life's too short :A 0 -

You could have told me a few years ago lol.....
Mind you, I just recharged the batteries on my multimeter and intend to try and get my xbox 360 drive working, before buying a new one and attempting to flash the drive, or swap out the logic board....To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -

... I thought it was an isolated incident & just put it down to bad luck
it started the same way as jfrock's problem, being picky about what it played, then eventually not playing any discs, from any region, in any format
I'd have chucked the darn thing out of the window if it hadn't had the HD recording facility
I got one of the cheap Pacific players from Asda to 'replace' it & that kept going without fault till Blu-ray came along
that 360 business sounds complicated, I take it it's not easy replace the HD?0
