Why unable to reserve seats?

I am trying to book tickets for a weekend to London at Christmas. The tickets were "released" today.

I have tried booking and reserving seats but this isnt allowed.

Why would this be? I have a feeling I remember this being the case last year when we tried to take the same train time and took a later train so we could get reserved seats.

Any idea?

Sorry I thought there would be a straight forward answer! LOL

    Ok.

    6.43am from Hereford - London Paddington 10/12/10.
  • Hi again, just checked and the Advance singles and reservations haven't been released yet for that route. On checking First Great Western website it states that there released up to 8th Dec, so hopefully they should be released this week, check Thursday or Friday.

And this page on the National Rail Enquiries website is also reporting "up to 8 Dec".

But not easy to find though, is it?
