My MFW diary to reduce mortgage as much as I can

Cheers Mintedmatty. I can't do it every month but try to as often as possible. Got car insurance and breakdown cover due next month for example, though i'm getting quite used to shopping around for car insurance - just saved my mum £90 on her renewal price :A
For breakdown I flit each year between AA and RAC then cancel at the end of the year when they try and put the price up and get cashback with the other one through TCB :rotfl:
Just hoping I can get the benefit of a few months on the SVR when my fixed rate tuns out at end of May to try and make as big a dent as poss before fixing again.
All the best with yours, think i'm subscribed to your diary so can see how you're doing

Hi Linz
Just caught up again and didn't want to read and run. Your Op's are massive. Keep up the good work.
Ive just added my Mortgage balance to my signature. It really is awful seeing it like that:D0 -
Thanks Romylou,
I'm not managing to save that much with all this OP'ing, wish I could do both but I make do with my clicking/surveys/cashback/careful shopping and bargain hunting for general cost-cutting/saving throughout the month. It all helps. I want to be able to enjoy life later on without having to worry about money, but that's not to say I don't enjoy life as it is now, I do, I get a buzz out of being frugal.
I seem to make myself out to be a right skinflint sometimes. People at work take the mick, but I still manage to go on holidays or city breaks 3 times a year or so, I just shop around, book cheap flights, stay in hostels. I save on food shopping with all the tricks I have learnt on this site so that I can have these getaways. Some people like their eating out, shopping in Waitrose, M&S etc, each to their own, I like travelling and hostelling
Noticed yr mortgage balance, that's not too bad, far higher ones on here. How you getting on with the CC busting? Hope doggy has recovered from his trauma!#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -
Thanks Linz,
When we got our mortgage 5 years ago, it was a 100% deal and to be honest, it was all we could afford. Luckily I fell in love with our house as soon as I saw it. Our original mortgage was £107,750, so we haven't really cleared that much off it in all that time.:o
We also didn't want to overstretch ourselves (I had my sensible head on), and to be honest I really really do NEED a holiday at least once a year, for my own sanity.:)
Dexter is doing good. I took his stitches out a fortnight ago, and the wound has healed really well. Since then he has had a haircut and looks fab. (The cutout patch doesn't look so obvious now). I didn't get the vet to remove the stitches because when I take him in, the smells/surroundings tend to stress him out a bit, so I did it myself at home. I took my time and he was completely relaxed (he watched me intently) but treats are a great incentive to get him to lie still. Only took 20 mins.0 -
Awww bless, glad he's on the mend.
Whereabouts in Scotland are you by the way? I'm off there in August for the Edinburgh military tattoo - can't wait.

I'm in Montrose. Love it here, really nice place to live. Not too busy or rural.
Edinburgh is a lovely place (good shopping!!) I've never been to the Tattoo though.0 -
Yippeeeeee! I'm in the thirties! £39,838.14 to be precise.
Next stop, £35k.
Off to celebrate with a glass of cheap Aldi plonk :rotfl:#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -
Well done linz,
keep up the good work. I notice that you are nearly at target for your mini challenge:T0 -
Yep

The pennies have certainly all added up, didn't think i'd get this close, might not have to dip into next months wage at this rate #39 - Save £12k in 20250 -
£300 OP made today. Can't really afford any more as car insurance is due to come off credit card soon -boooo!
On the plus side the £60 cashback on TCB has tracked so insurance only really cost me £157 after cashback which is only a little dearer than last years. I always thought having an older person as a named driver brought the cost down so I used to have my mum on, but found out it's dearer with her on this year for some reason, so took her off lol. She has her own car anyway
Hope to be back on track next month
