Locked car and house key in boot

  • We had the exact issue with my mums 10yr old e46 bimmer at a tesco car park whislt snowing heavily.
AA man came out and couldn't do anything.
We signed some paperwork which gave him permission to break into the boot through the back seats with an angle grinder bought from tesco.
    A very interesting evening!

Please, please phone round and get a decent locksmith/garage locally to help. You have to tell them the age and model, whether it has a ski option or not and then, if they know their stuff, they will know how to get in or where to drill the hole in the rear to manually pull the boot opener. This should be a nice precise job, not an attack on your pride and joy with a tin-opener.

instead of phoning all and sundry, why not search the house for the spare?

I have been looking. We just moved here - renting - and I can find the key box from the old house but the removal men must've taken the keys out and put them somewhere else. There are about 40 boxes of stuff which I'm not unpacking because we're moving again in a couple of months so no point unpacking ALL of em.

Find the spare - I recently had to search the whole house to find my car keys too.

Check if the car has a quick release for the boot next to the driver seat.

    Failing the 2 above
10 year old BMW.......... I agree with anew angle grinder cut a smallish hole in the boot, get keys, weld a new patch over the hole & paint.

Just spoke to an Auto locksmith and for £120 he can either get in through the keyhole or failing that will drill a hole under the registration plates which will be hidden. Meanwhile I will continue to look for the spare key. Don't forget I cant get to the quick release handle cos I CAN'T GET INTO THE CAR!!!!! :)

And the cheapest glass to break and get replaced would be a rear quarter glass. Make sure you think you can reach the handle before breaking it though.

That was my thought at the original post. I would add search ebay for the cheapest glass first.

Where in the country are you? are you sure you are phoning local locksmiths not national call centers?

I open BMW's without damage by picking the lock. I can't belive what I am hearing on here cut a hole out of the boot with a grinder weld and fill it !!!!!! are some people on:rotfl:

let me know where you are I should be able to find someone a bit cheaper.

I'd go for picking too or at the most destructive, drill the lock out

I'm struggling to believe the angle grinder stories

If a locksmith costs £120 then smashing a window and replacing it would more than likely be cheaper, particularly if doing it DIY. If an option is cheaper and the end result is just as good....
  • hmm every car can be broken into one way or another

if you lived local I would do it for you with no damged
    helped many people out

by the way your back seats well the ones you sit on you should be able to lift them up giving you space for a rod to push the boot open or even get your keys the metal frame might have a tiny gap or.... jus use a drill or something to cut a hole in the metal frame saves you making a hole in the boot which people might see.
