TSB to TSB cheque process must be quicker than external.
Only where it's treated as a 'house' cheque. And that is normally categorised as a cheque drawn on an account within the same Branch - not the same Bank.
But I can't explain the 'instant' clearance. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Mikeyorks, I know that's what it should be according to the T&Cs.
It is definitely a different branch and a business cheque.
Obviously, I have no idea what information the phoneline staff can see.
Now, thinking about the information I was given regarding an external cheque paid in to-day, I think the advisor was not aware of the difference between available and cleared. I was told this external cheque would clear next Wednesday. That's day 4 of the 2-4-6 clearing cycle and when it becomes available.
Maybe their system shows availability, just like the online system.Dagobert0 -

That depends on the bank ... Halifax will (on request) treat a cheque from any other Halifax or Bank of Scotland personal account as cleared funds, regardless of the branch that the account is held at.0 -
I've never 'requested' it. But Halifax have always cleared other Halifax cheques via my account on the standard 2-4-6 timeframe.
Others have reported instant clearance on these forums, over the years, for a variety of Banks. But the only generally accepted method of instant cheque clearance (ever since Town Clearing disappeared in 1995) is via a 'house' cheque. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
How do you know whether funds have cleared (6) as opposed to been made available (4)?
All the bank online interfaces I am familiar with show balance and available balance, not cleared funds.Dagobert0
