  • Lanzarote is good for beach sports (windsurfing ect) & volcanos....there is also Timanfaya National Park.

  • Tenerife has Mount Teide and most of the other things you're looking for. Temperatures will be above 30 in August (especially in the south) but further inland/north will be cooler. Quite budget-friendly too.

    iceland is fabulous
  • Before I finished reading your post I was about to say Olu Deniz :)
  • No, you are correct, there is a Sierra Nevada in America!
The 400 mile Sierra Nevada mountain range is in California - Yosemite, Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks are in the SN, with contigious USAs highest mountain, tallest waterfall and the world's biggest tree (according to Lonely Planet! :)

Well thank goodness for that! Thanks Jackie.
It sounds like a fab holiday destination too. My Dh has done a bit of pricing, though, and he says we're looking at a minimum of about £800 each which is more that we can do so we're going to stick to Europe.
  • I hadn't thought of Tenerife or Lanzarote so I'll have a look tomorrow, thanks. Ammonite, me DH and kids would love Iceland but I'd heard it is expensive once you get there and I'm holding out for some degree of heat with snorkelling, hopefully. I will check out the summer temperatures, though.
  • Just to add, although the temperature in Lanzarote in August may be above 30, its quite windy so is unlikely to feel that hot. :)

Santorini might be of interest for volcano fans, but it has black sand that gets very hot. La Palma is another volcanic Canary Island you could consider. For hiking it's perhaps the best. On Scilly you could have a boat trip to Stromboli as well as visiting Etna. To get to the top of Mt Teide you need to get a permit.

    Hi
I was hoping that someone who's travelled about a bit could point me in the right direction for where to go next summer, please.
There are 2 adults and a 16, 15 and 10 year old. The kids are not stereotypical teenagers and this is the kind of thing we like:

sun but not hotter than about 30ish
    beaches - relatively quiet
    waterparks/watersports/diving/snorkelling
    wildlife/natur/gardens
    hikes and bikes
teenagers are doing geology/geog and DH likes that too-all would enjoy a good volcano!!
I'd like not to cook every night

Thanks to advice from this forum, last year we had a fantastic holiday in Olu Deniz half board doing snorkelling/scuba, Dalyan boat trip, Ephesus and Parmukale (sp?). That holiday was via Mr Tesco and we'd need to be budget-conscious. Also we have to go in school summer holidays.

I was wondering about America or Italy but I'd really appreciate some pointers.

    Thanks v much.

You could try Indonesia, it's very cheap, and has all of the above, Bali being the most convenient if you don't want to travel around much. Flights will be the main cost.
