Art as Investment

I'm thinking of investing in art and in particular a well-known artist (I'll keep quiet for now incase somebody else eyes up the painting!). I'm trying to think of a downside in doing so - anybody got any experience of doing so and any words of warning against doing so?

I'm not a fan of investing in art. The reason is that I've worked in an art gallery and I've seen people buying piece of art with the hope of revenue when actually their purchase is nothing special. I think it is a matter of luck
