DAB Radio for car

Hi! My OH has mentioned that he'd like a DAB converter for his car for Christmas. I'm a bit of a technopohne, so I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice on these or make any recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Either to convert DAB to analogue or analogue to DAB ???

Personally I'd get this (same price & easier): PURE Highway In-Car DAB Radio With FM Transmitter - Black & he'll be thanking you until Christmas after :D

  • That was actually the one I've been looking at - phew!!!!! It's just so that he can listen to the internet stations he listens to at home really, ie Absolute 80's etc. I think this comes with a double socket for the cigarette lighter too - is it a good idea to get them both????

For what it's worth I use the pure highway

I Personally found window stick on aerial on that comes with unit gives inferior results in my area.

Far and away better reception by using the Pure Highway External Aerial

It has a small magnetic base and around 2 mtrs of connecting lead, just plugs into Highway and cost £20 from Amazon.

Agree with john1 on the aerial comments but it's not as user friendly. Depending on what car it is you may be able to get an addon that fixes into the existing radio. eg Volkswagen do it on some models. You don't need the double socket for the highway itself , but if you regularly power other stuff through that socket and don't have another then it's worth getting as well.

Well pleased with this unit apart from loosing the signal now and again. I'm using the stick on screen aerial but am thinking of buying this as a replacement http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110673730773&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:1123
Has anyone used one of these or should I go the whole hog and get a rooftop aerial for better reception ?

I use the Kinetic roof aerial which comes with a mag mount. It gives excellent reception and has a longer lead than the Pure, which is far too short. It is sold by the same company, Sonus Audio, at the same price as the one which you listed.

This site will not let me post the link as it thinks I am a new user, but if you go to the link which you posted on eBay and then click on "see other items, you will see the Kinetic roof aerial for the Highway.

When DAB+ is finally launched in the UK it promises to be almost as good as FM.

Unfortunately, DAB+ is not backwardly compatible with DAB, so new radios will be needed all round.

Of course that will be great news for Currys & Comet (if they haven't collapsed before then.)
