freeview PVR issues

Hello

I used to have a great goodmans PVR that I bought in ASDA for £90 many years back..it has recently packed up and I am looking to replace it. I bought a refurb Wharfdale from AMplins and it was a nightmare- kept turning off, freezing and the menu and remote response was a joke. I then bought a HUMAX 9150. When I recieved it I noticed it doesn't have a HDMI socket. On my old PVR the difference in quality of picture was quite dramatic between scart and HDMI and also the scart always had issues with a faint 'buzz'.

I was about to sen dit back but then I have read that unless you are watching HD an HDMI isn't really needed- so is it just that I need a better scart?
