Help with choosing a new wireless router

i have presently gor a netgear dg 834gt wireless router and have had it about 6 years.
i am wanting to upgrade to a new router with more range etc( i also require one which dosnt keep dropping connection.
using for home use (general and my son gaming)
is there any techie out there can recommend a make of router as there are so many.
