Can connect to Home Wireless but nowhere else

Hi
My laptop connects okay to my home wireless. When I am out I cannot access any other wireless set ups, McDonalds etc, message says No Connection to internet, yet wireless connection says good.

Any ideas ?

So it goes through the connection process. ie you see the relevent network in the list and connect to it with no prolems?

Did you manually assign an IP and/or DNS to the wireless adapter? It should be set to automatically via DHCP to work everywhere. Otherwise you would need to change it every time.

Here's a howto for WinXP. Other Versions might differ slightly.

  • Thanks Tronator, I too was having the same problem. I'll follow the instructions within the link and see if it works as I'm out and about tomorrow and I'll be taking my laptop.

It's hotels wifi that I find trouble connecting to for some reason - McD - okay though
