How to get hold of discharge papers

Asking this for a friend of mine.

He left the army during basic training about 2 years ago. At the time he was given his discharge papers but has since lost them.

Anyone know an address or a phone number which could help him get hold of them?
He has asked at his local careers office but they said they can't help.
