Fresh claim for esa pending appeal

Hi,
Currently, I'm entitled to Incapacity Benefit, due to suffering from M.E. However, I anticipate having my claim reviewed at some point in the future.
In this regard, a friend has advised me that of claimants (Incapacity benefit/Employment Support Allowance) whose claim has been disallowed after a review, 70% are having their claim reinstated on appeal.
My question is this: if, subsequent to a review, my claim is disallowed and I decide to appeal, would it be possible for my GP to sign me off sick and for me to make a claim for ESA. Obviously this would provide me with an income (albeit reduced) until my appeal was heard?

I'm not really certain on how the switch from IB to ESA works but I do know that to be on ESA the 13 weeks or so before a medical you have to have a dr's note anyway to receive it.0

You friend is incorrect with regard to the success rate of appeals for ESA, the success rate from the latest published figures is 39%.
The success rate for IB appeals is not 70% either, from memory I think it is about 45%.0
