cut the offending bit out , then cut a new piece of plaster board thats bigger then the hole. Fix a bit of string to the new plasterboard in the centre smear with coving adhesive and then use the string to pull it flush to the inside of existing wall then tie the loose end of the string to a pencil or something wider than the hole on the outside
once dried and solid you can cut the string and cut another piece of plasterboard slightly smaller than the hole and stick that in the hole so all you need to do is fill and sand round the edge (coving adhesive makes a good filler as well)Ex forum ambassador

you can also do it this way with wire mesh

Step by step guide to repairing a large hole in a stud wall or ceiling
Step 1Use a cable, pipe and stud detector around the work area to find cables and pipes to help check that it is safe to cut though the plasterboard. Step 2
Locate the studs on either side of the damaged area by feeling into the hole or using a stud detector. Measure distance to studs. Step 3
Draw vertical lines with a spirit level to mark the centre of each stud, extending the lines above and below the damaged area. Step 4
Use the spirit level once again to mark horizontal lines to join the verticals, making a rectangle around the damaged area.
Step 5Cut away the rectangular area of wall with a drywall saw and a craft knife and remove the damaged section of plasterboard. Step 6
Attach noggings (horizontal wood supports) to the studs, one above and one below the hole, to make fixing points for the screws. Step 7
Measure and cut a section of plasterboard to fit the hole snugly and fix it to the studs and noggings with drywall screws. Step 8
Fix the edges of the original plasterboard to the studs and noggings in just the same way, using drywall screws.
Step 9When all is secured, carefully tape along each of the edges of the rectangle with self-adhesive scrim, going right up to and over the corners. Step 10
Plaster the surface of the repaired wall with finishing plaster, ensuring you cover all of the scrim. Allow to dry and sand until it is smooth.
Step by step guide to repairing a small hole in a stud wall or ceiling
Step 1Repairing a small hole requires a slightly different technique. Draw a rectangle around the damaged area with the help of a spirit level. Step 2
Check for cables and pipes before cutting away the rectangular damaged wall section with a drywall saw and a craft knife. Step 3
To make fixing points, thread batten in through the hole, behind the top and bottom edges. Hold in place with fingers and fix in place. Step 4
Measure and cut a small rectangular section of plasterboard to fit the hole snugly and fix it to the battens with drywall screws.
Step 5Apply some filler, ensuring you cover all screwheads. When dry, sand the area until it is smooth. You may need a second coat.
Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

i cut out the damaged section and make simple wood noggins to hold the new piece of PB.
insert and fix the new piece, and then fill/plaster over the joins.Get some gorm.0
