What to do?

HI there. Sorry for asking such a silly question, especially as I seem to remember something on here about this before.

I sold two items on eBay last night, and the seller lives near me, so asked if he/she could pick them up. I agreed, but they want to pay on delivery - not a good idea, I understand, as I won't be able to prove receipt.

Also, they've said they "will let me know" when they're ready to collect.

Do any of you with with your encyclopedic eBay knowledge have any advice or thoughts?

Much appreciated - thanks.

You only need proof of delivery for paypal, if they are paying cash then that is fine.

Yep, it'll be fine. I've done it a couple of times.
(And if they were stupid enough to open a non-paying seller dispute, then you'd conversely open a NPbidder dispute and that'd affect them worse.)
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

If you are that worried, type out something like a receipt before they come and print of 2 copies and you sign them and get them to as well!

I mentioned in a previous thread that I had done this in the past, but got the impression from other posts that it wouldn't make any difference to eBay.

It all depends on whetehr you use paypal or not. If you take paypal then only a proof of delivery online will stop a chargeback, a signed receipt will not.

An ebay claim is different and much less clear cut, but a signed receipt should make no difference at all, so I have never bothered. If a buyer cannot prove they have paid then a seller does not need any receipt, a buyer paying cash does so at their own risk and they are not even covered on ebay anyway so can make no claim against the seller at all.

Thanks Soolin. Wise words as usual. As it's not a huge amount, I'll let him/her collect it. Still can't afford to lose out at this point in time though!!!

That's why cash is such a good idea, as long as the notes are genuine you can't lose plus you pay no paypal fees, so it all helps.

You've done better than letting them pick up after they paid by PayPal. That would be trouble.
Don't let the buyer string this out for too long. Make sure there is a time limit on the collection.
PS. I like your avatar. Is it anyone we know?
