Company Car to Personal Car - NCB?

Morning all,

Quick question for my Dad who is retiring today ... :T

Dad is currently insured through his company car policy (and has been for years), as well as being a named driver on my Mum's policy and having oodles of years NCB on a motorcycle policy. He has just bought a lovely new Audi, but their insurers will not give him any NCB.

Are there any companies that would recognise his company car or bike NCB? I am happy to do a bit of ringing around, but would he be better off just to approach a broker?

Big thank you in advance! ;)

Try tesco who do accept NCD from motor bike insurance.

I was in the same situation a few years back, Direct Line did give me five years NCB but I had to provide a letter from my company stating that I had not had any claims on their insurance in the past five years, may be worth giving them a call and enquiring.

Does he still have the bike?
I didn't think you could use NCD twice ???

    There are pitfalls to this.

One of which is that Aviva have a dreadful reputation amongst our learned friends on this board (I mean those that work in the industry).

Thanks so much for the fast replies - I am not allowed to drive so this is all new to me! Mum can't remember who her insurance is with, I'll have a nosey through her emails.

He does still have the bike, though he is planning to get rid of it shortly, and that could potentially be within the next week or so. I'll suggest that he calls Tesco and Direct Line (and definitely not Aviva!) to see what they say. If not, I'll get him to call Adrian Flux.

I'll report back on what we find!

Thanks Di, could I ask who your insurance is with?

Fab, thank you - in that case I assume the same would apply to esure.

He is now wondering if he did make a claim last year, in which case we'll put the car in Mum's name ... It's never simple!

Will your mum sell her existing car and put the Audi on that policy then? If your dad is driving under your mum's policy as a named driver, if he did have a claim last year that should be disclosed to your mum's insurers as it is a material fact. Just because it wasn't his insurance doesn't mean he need not disclose the accident.

If your mum is going to take out a second policy for the Audi and your dad is going to be the main driver she will have to disclose that - she won't be able to use the same bonus on two cars.

Your dad should contact the company's HR dept and ask if they can arrange a letter from the company insurers relating to your dad - even if he had a claim last year if he had driven for many years claims free they will usually disclose that in a letter and it may prompt a new insurer to provide him with an introductory NCB.
