I have been using TD Ameritrade for 2 years now but did open the account when I was in Las Vegas (avoiding the slot machines!)

TD have been quite good and there are extra benefits if you hold $25,000 in cash or holdings with them as an Apex client.
I find their command 2.0 platform with Level 2 quite good but do prefer my advanced charts from IG Index.

Trades cost $9.99 irrespective of how many shares you buy/sell but I managed to get a flat dealing rate of $5 when ThinkorSwim were a seperate company and offering that deal price. I do make around 4 to 6 trades per day though.

Another decent firm is Noble Trading and they seem easy enough to open accounts with for non-US residents, their dealing rates can be better than TD Standard rates and you can haggle with them to reduce these if you trade frequently.
