Removal costs?

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much removal firms may charge? I live in the Midlands near Coventry in a 3 bed semi and will be moving almost 90 miles to Stoke-on-Trent. This will be the first time I've used a removal firm and I'm not sure what to look for when choosing one. Thanks in advance you lovely people!

Ring a few firms and get quotes. They are (normally) free with no obligation. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

It depends on a number of factors, including whether you wan the removal company to pack for you and how much stuff you have to move.
I've had quotes to move 200 miles and to have the packing done for me. One quote from a local company was £2700, apparently I have 1700cubic feet to move! Two other local companies came in at around £2400.
I then tried a national company who have quoted around £1650.
I think the answer is to get lots of companies to quote. National companies are more likely to organise a back load and therefore be cheaper. Not sure of the website but there was an article in a paper a few weeks ago about auctioning your load as a backload - perhaps worth a search on google. This looked particularly good for those people who only have a few things or half a lorry to move. The idea being someone moving from London to Scotland may have filled 1.5 lorries leaving half a load that could be picked up in Coventry and dropped off in Stoke.0 -
Thanks for the inof. Wow, it seems it's going to cost a lot, but I really can't face the thoughtfof hauling all the big stuff like sofa, beds, etc out of one house and then into another. Removal firm seems like the only way!!0

You want to get on https://www.shiply.com It will let firms quote for your move. Some just provide contact numbers but quite a few do give you a proper quote.0
