The Adventure Company - any thoughts?

Looking at their trip to India including Pushkar Fair. Anyone used them? Also, any discount codes please?

No, sorry but I have travelled in India many times. What I can guarantee you is that you'll save loads if you do it yourself and that is very easy in India. All you need is common sense :)

Obviously if you go to Pushkar during the camel fair prices go through the roof but all that means is that you'll be paying European prices for places to stay.

Oh, also I hope for your sake that by the time you get to Pushkar they have fixed the leak in the damn lake too! Being India though they probably haven't!!!
  • I have looked at them in the past but always found them to be very expensive. Try Explore, Gap Adventures or Intrepid as well.
You will save money travelling independently in India, but it's not that easy. I found it really hard work, and I am a fairly seasoned traveller. There were some good times too though.
  • I can see where Bananabelly is coming from, but if travelling was really dead easy it would be dull.

India has a pretty comprehensive (if chaotic) transport infrastructure and most hotels will be able to help you out with buying tickets etc. when you turn up so it is very doable independently from a practical point of view. The challenge in India though is dealing with the people, bless em. Treat it like a game and you’ll be fine.

As you have almost a year to plan this (assuming you are thinking of going in 2011) best thing you can do is get reading. Also, this site is great for advice on some things but maybe not for travelling in India. Try checking out India Mike's website (sorry, can't post the link as I haven't posted enough on here!) - the forums on there are priceless and I’ve used them loads (to both give and get advice).
