How do I stop eBay showing my recent searches?

Options
The new layout of eBay has a section on the homepage that lists your recent searches. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I've looked around eBay but can't find it anywhere.

It's really weird - I wasn't logged into eBay but had searched for a couple of things on there. My partner went onto eBay on his laptop and on the homepage it listed my searches! Neither of us had logged in so it wasn't linked to the account, and we weren't even using the same computer. That's just creepy.

Also, a bugg4h if you were on there buying a secret pressie for the OH. ... and other unsavoury choices one might have searched for.
  • it says clear viewed items under my homepage. Alternatively use the private mode in your browser to be ultra safe.

    hope that helps.

Haha, luckily I haven't searched for anything embarrassing! But yeah, it means I can't use eBay for any suprise gifts anymore if I can't get this sorted out. Like I said, it's just creepy - if we were both logged in, or using the same computer, fair enough, but we weren't. Does it go off the IP address or something? Cos that doesn't seem right either, I don't want to go on eBay tomorrow (when I'll have a new IP address) and see someone else's searches coming up!

I cleared the viewed items but it still had a massive section of suggestions - i.e. the same items searched for, which I couldn't get rid of. Also wouldn't be able to clear the list off someone else's computer unless I got there first! Not sure if private browsing will help given the circumstances, but I'll test it out. Bit of a bum ache to remember to do it every time though!
  • worst case just delete your cookies and browser hx
  • That's the problem though - I'd already cleared my browser history, cookies, all that stuff, I wasn't even using my laptop at the time, but all my searches were still showing up on someone else's computer. I tested private browsing and my searches still show up when my partner uses his laptop. Really flipping annoying! I'm going to email eBay about it - it's obviously a glitch with the new layout that they mustn't know about.
  • I find Amazon does the same thing. When hubby logs into it at work he gets to see what I've been looking at or buying. I can't turn that off either.
Not great when Christmas is coming and I'm thinking of pressies!
