Housing Association Moving Problems - advice needed

  • Thanks - it is difficult as our only other option if I can't get the whole family housed together is to find the cousin sheltered accomodation and place him back into the care of the council but we really don't want to do this.
We moved him from his home 2 hours away so we could look after him as he wasn't coping and he is very happy up here but wants to settle in properly i.e have his own room as all his stuff has been in storage since he moved. It is so frustrating.

See, I think that your in-laws are entitled to a Carer's Assessment of their needs from Social Services, which is a separate thing to an assessment of the cousin's needs. That might be worth requesting, via the Duty Desk of Social Services.

My MIL has spent 2 hours in the council offices and they have changed her from a 3 bed to a 4 bed but have not changed the priority so we are still bottom of the list.

its good that they have changed your required beds, although band C is far from bottom of the list, (round here anyway) band A is emergency, which is very very hard to get banded in that category then is band B then band c and so on with band E being no housing need.

try not to be too disheartened, alot of band C households do get housing offers (again round here & we do have housing shortage here) but as soon as the eldest boy turns 18 go straight to the council and that may move you into a band B.

it may still be worth going to the dr's as if the cousins health and wellbeing is being made worse (or even if your mil or fil health is being made worse)
