Brand new computer from Comet - doesnt load...

Hi all.
Really disappointed after buying a brand new Compaq desktop from Comet which was supposed to have windows 7.
First problem encountered is that it doesnt load windows at all, at the BIOS start up sequence it simply ends with the instruction..
"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".
The problem is that there is no CD supplied to boot anything from! There is also no windows 7 manual. All that was supplied is a basic instruction booklet (how to install keyboard etc)
Second issue is that the CD-Rom drive is 1inch recessed inside the case, not flush as it should be as displayed in the store. Im really wondering whether it is really new or has been returned at some point.
I bought it today using my visa debit card, not happy one bit and wondering what is the best way forward, what id ideally like is an exchange for a different model or a full refund.
Will be dealing with this first thing tomorrow, please advise guys.
Thanks
Karl

check the hard disk cable hasn't come loose, and move the dvd drive so it's flush, and check the hard disk is 1st or second in the boot order in the bios screen, or take it back.!!

Check that theres nothing in the CD/DVD drive or floppy drive (if there is one which I dont think there will be). Other than that take it back as its obviously not fit for purpose and demand a new one at a discount for the inconvenience.0

i had to take a brand new computer back to comet years ago as the wiring to the speakers was exposed, and i could here test cricket throught them! they wer going to try and palm me off with a repair, i just said i was going to bring the computer back to the shop and shout for a refund, and when i got there they had a new computer waiting for me.0

I'd not attempt to fix anything either. They might come out with some bull about you voiding the warranty, or they wont replace it because you may have caused the damage etc.
Box it back up and take it right back.Sigless0 -
Really impressed how fast you all helped.
Browntoa I didnt get your message in time, I opened it up (one screw).
Inside the cable to the Hard drive wasnt not connected so I pushed it in.
I also pushed the CD rom forward as 'closed' suggested, it seems normal now.
It now is loading windows and im a happy bunny. Just hope that is the end of the problems.
It has put me off Comet and Compaq a little. Ive found from google that you dont get a windows disk with compaq it seems. how strange. hope that maybe helps someone.
thanks all!0 -

Compaq/HP pc's are normally very good as it goes , most of the new ones come with a recovery partition that reloads windows if neededEx forum ambassador

In transit leads often get disconnected. Recovery partition is a godsend as you can just run it fast from application and you have sparkly clean computer as new, all the extras supplied reinstalled. Hardcore computer buffs would probably disagree and in some ways I should like both a disk and recovery partition, but 10 mins after you have c...ed up something you have machine up and running. With discs nearer 2 hours !!!0
