Not had a reason to try it yet, but this can cut bits off mp3 files without the need to re-encode

you can do it with I-Tunes.
Use iTunes.
Put woteva song you wont to use in the library (whether u use iTunes or not, i dont but do for ringtones) then right click it. Select "Get Info" then go to the "Options" tab. Make sure you already know which part of the song you want by the second, i.e. If you wanted the chorus, play the song and look for the time where it starts and finishes. Then input these seconds into the "start" and "finish" boxes. Now click OK and go back to your library. Play the same song again and it will be just the part you want!!! Now right click it again and select "Convert selection to MP3". It will now convert it to MP3 (oviously!:D) this may take a few seconds. Now restore down Itunes (the button next to the X in the top right for those of you that dont know!!!). Go back to your library and drag the MP3 converted track (you can tell by the time) to your desktop. Then simply move it to a folder or put it on your phone via BT, IR or cable!!! Hey presto a fully functioning MP3 ringtone.
By the way it doesnt take aslong as it sounds, i just had to tell you every step though.0
