damage to my kitchen worktops

i bought a kitchen from B&Q and the worktops have become covered in scratches within a couple of months. I complained to B&Q who contacted the supplier who said that the worktops met the industry requirements and that was that. How do i stand on this issue?

I recently bought a new desk. It is quite shiny and Moo discovered it works as an excellent mini ice rink (I am thinking of entering him in Dancing on Ice). I now have a shiny and rather scratched desk.
    Gone ... or have I?

What type of worksurface is it?
Is it a high gloss, or a matt finish?

I presume its a gloss worktop you have, they show up scratches easily, there is nothing wrong with yours sounds normal, ours is a gloss worktop and you can see the scratches, it happens even when you are careful
  • problem is you place a cup on the worktop and move it and hey a scratch appears on what is supposed to be a scratch resistant worktop. it is a matt finish.
  • also the worktop has a Warranty/guarantee details: 12 months for manufacturing faults attributed to latent defect.

Don't know the answer, but I wouldn't expect a matt worksurface to scratch.
The gloss ones are bad, but unless you are cutting on it, it shouldn't mark a matt one.
Insist that a comapany representative comes and looks at it, it could be a fault in the laminate.
If there is no joy, send a letter before action for new worksurfaces and cost for replacement.
You will need to get a local kitchen fitter to quote for it, and get an opinion an whether or not the surface is defective first though.
  • I have asked b&q to come and have a look at the worktops but it fell on deaf ears. This has been draging on now since may and even trading standards have said it will cost money to win this arguement. i have asked 2 idependent kitchen fitters who have said there is a problem with the worktop but that is no good for b&q!!!
  • they both said it was as if the worktop hadn't been finished properly

You need to get it in writing on headed paper and take that to B&Q.
