Car Insurance- Insuring someone who will never drive the car to cut costs.

I am sure this will have been asked before so apologies in advance. I am searching to renew my car insurance. I notice that with one company if I put down my ex mother in law whom is in her 70s as a named driver the cost drops by £50! She will never drive the car, I cant see a problem with this is there? Am I missing something obvious?

Are you sure about her history and convictions?

Some insurers will request all driving licences in the event of a claim.
  • Thanks for the reply, yes definately no claims or convictions
  • I have answered my own question by ringing the company up and being honest!! Nothing to stop me all above board.

I bet there's now a note against your policy in case you need to claim. ;)

Might want to insure with a different company without mentioning that or get something in writing?

Probably ok but I don't trust insurance companies...
  • Thanks for the advice, it isnt my existing company its a new one and I didnt give my details. He even said that young drivers do it all the time adding their parents to bring down the cost. It isnt a Mickey Mouse company either its Aviva. Managed to reduce renewal from £480 with LV to £305 with less excess and a courtesy car, plus £50 quidco. Result!

They have an awful reputation on here.
Might be worth doing some research if you are at all concerned about geting good claims service.
We had good service from Norwich Union 4 years ago, but I'm told it has all changed.
  • Might be because they have located all their call centres to india. We took out 7 days cover free when we bought a car recently. The provider was aviva but their call centre people took 3 attempts to set it up.

Even the car dealer said they were hopeless but it was a company group deal so they had to use them.
