Can a SD card be password protected without compression?

I use an SD memory card in a reader as a dongle, making the data very vulnerable if lost. I could enclose all my files in a .zip folder, but this involves unnecessary compression. I believe there is the risk of some data loss in this process, so is there a simple way to do this?

You could do this using trucrypt.
You'd need to have admin privs on any computer you want to use it in to install the drivers for trucrypt. And you can either install the app software on your main computer, or have a portable version of the app outside the secured area on your SD card of you intend using it on other computers. You'd still need admin privs on those computers tho'.0 -
usb safeguard is an option, I have never used it though as I use windows bitlocker http://lifehacker.com/5527474/usb-safeguard-encrypts-portable-flash-drives-securely-deletes-files it does not require admin access0

I've got Easylock on a 2.5 external HDD I bought. Works well from what I can see - no complaints here. You create a hidden encrypted folder and then move all your sensitive files and progs to it. When you first plug in the HDD it only shows you your unencrypted stuff. To get to your encrypted stuff you have to load the prog (takes about 2 secs) and then key in your password and then it displays them.
Truecrypt is very good in general but useless for 'mobile' applications as you need admin access on every PC you want to use your stuff on.0 -
