OK - don't laugh a serious question

The company I work for ran a competition in it's monthly newsletter - which I won.

The Prize a Garmin NUVI 350 SatNav. However, When I got this, it looked new, but on trying to register it, it said it had already been registered.

Because of this, I was unable to update the old (2008) maps. So basically it's not much use. I tried contacting Garmin with no reply.

Work has been kinda helpful, but say the SatNav was 'donated' by a advertising company when we opened a new depot in Wakefield and that said company no longer exists!

After days of trying to find out who and why it was registered and if in fact it was new (as it is a 2008 model), I am no further forward.

Are there any rules, regulations or whatever that cover such 'company competitions'?

It might seem trivial, but it's the only thing I have ever won and I don't have a SatNav - so it was a great surprise. However, half the roads I have tried it on don't exist in it's maps - so it's really not much use.
