hi there
today my partner went to the bank(natwest) to put the housing benefit cheque into the savings account(which we have done for the last 2 years nearly since we have been getting housing benefit) so that come payday when the rent goes out we have that half there and its not accidentally been used-anyway when he got there he was told we cant put cheques into savings accounts you have to do it online :S when he said weve been doing it every month for the last almost 2 years he was just told well they shouldnt have been doing it,
So were confused i intend to ring the bank but wonder if anyone can shed a bit of light on this?

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. ~Unknown

That particular account can only be managed by phone, internet and post.
BTW, it only pays 0.1% interest.
There is an account called First Reserve, which also pays a miserable 0.1%, but allows branch access.
Have a look here: http://www.natwest.com/personal/savings/g1/instant-access.ashx0 -
There's a lot of savings accounts where you have to put cheques in the current account and then transfer the money (when it's cleared if necessary) into savings
Natwest Savings Direct is online phone and post only. It's a puzzle if you've been able to use a branch in the past0 -
