nil tax code

I used to do payroll for about 400 people. Tax Codes changes are routine, you process them and then file away. It really is like a lot of data processing, you don't think about what the tax code means.0

I went b/r in Oct 08 had nil tax code for 3 months, saved the money but moonbeever and or have never asked for it! I was discharged Oct 09, and have a nice little account with £600 sitting in it. I know from pm's I've had that the same has happened to others so it doesn't always happen that the tax is collected, obviously you have to save it just in case.

I went BR end of May.
My NT code starts at the end of October as my wages had been sorted before my employer received the letter.
He did show me/give me a copy of the letter, but i cant remeber what it said. Its at home. I'll dig it out later and let you know for peice of mind. As my boss knows about my BR it was something he was waiting for.
I also got letters at home directly.

Tax Code notifications to employers are very brief. NI number, Name, New Tax Code - there isn't really much more to them.0 -
I wouldn't recommend not paying it straight to moonbeever. With the best of intentions, it is too easy to "borrow it" from yourself and then struggle paying it back when you are on an IPA. The whole point of bankruptcy is to have peace of mind and pay your dues. The last thing you want is wondering whether to admit to it, or get comfortable that "they wont ask for it back now will they? It is dishonest to keep it.
For the benefit of the OP, if the tax office don't apply the nil tax promptly, I think the OR gets it back from them anyway.
