Quidco &Tradedoubler

Techie people!! Help!!

I have been using Quidco quite happily for months, but suddenly some of the links are not working and I am being directed to the following link, which is a blank page.

http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=22234&a=1089147&g=12834491&epi=2

As far as I can see from trawling previous posts, tradedoubler is the affiliate network behind quidco, and I found one post that said about a HOSTS file, which I can find, but can't open. I have AVG free and Spybot running on Internet Explorer. I haven't had any probs before, and have cleared the cookie cache and enables pop ups etc.

I am desperate to apply for a post offoce 0% card as the interest is piling up on the Barclaycard!

Any help much appreciated ...

  • Anyone?

I have uninstalled spybot, after fiddling with all the settings. I think it is something to do with the "advertising robots", but surely these should have been enabled when I uninstalled spybot. It's really not working, and it's not just one link, it's loads of them which are knackered.

Please could someone offer some advice?

you should be able to edit the hosts file with Notepad

    some info here

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/ietopten.mspx

Find and edit your HOSTS file
The correct directory for a HOSTS file depends on what version of Windows you are running:
    Windows XP = C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc
    Windows 2K = C:\Winnt\System32\Drivers\Etc
    Win 98\ME = C:\Windows
Once you have found your HOSTS file, right-click on the HOSTS file, and then select Open. You will be asked to choose a program to use. Select Notepad, but make sure you that you do NOT turn on any option to always use the same program.
Examine the content of your HOSTS file, and compare it to the screenshot below. We do not need to worry about any line that begins with an # because is ignored by Windows. Also, the line "127.0.0.1 localhost" can be safely ignored, because it is a standard entry.
    60161_375x200_hosts_F.gif
A HOSTS file can be used to control Web page to IP address associations

Anything else that appears in your HOSTS file without an # at the beginning, apart from the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line, should be viewed with suspicion when we are trying to diagnose the cause of "Page cannot be displayed" errors. The quickest way to test for HOSTS file involvement is to right click the HOSTS file, then select Rename. Add the letter X to the beginning or end of the file name and then ok your changes. By changing the name of the HOSTS file, we stop Internet Explorer from using it, and therefore resolve any issues caused by the file.

    Hi Browntoa,

I posted this ages ago, and got distracted with other stuff. An update - I tried this HOSTS thing, renaming it, but there was nothing else in the file apart from the standard localhost line.

I have AVG free and AVG antivirus running, and have also tried to access Quidco through Firefox 2 which I just dowloaded.

The tradedoubler links STILL aren't working and it's driving me bonkers.  Any other suggestions as to what I should do?

Thanks for your help so far
