Does anyone know what these agent fees are please?

Hello All

I was wondering if anyone can offer me any advice -

I booked a holiday on Saturday over the phone to Kalkan in Turkey through A1 travel, the gentleman quoted me £359 per person for 8 nights. (Bed and breakfast, flights and lugguage). He said that luggage was included in the price.

I have just received the invoice from them and the following costs were in the breakdown, which were not spoken of on the phone -

1x ATOL Protection @ £5 each - £10
2 x Late Booking Fee @ £16.67 each - £33.34
1 x APC @ £5 - £5

Total - £48.34

Please can anyone tell me why these are being charged in the breakdown of costs please, as they were never discussed on the phone with myself, as it adds nearly £50 more to the trip.

The gentleman who booked the flight and hotel only mentioned that the flight cost included luggage (which I'm not querying). However there was no mention at any point the ATOL protection and late booking fee, or the APC product (I don't even know what this is.).

Can anyone give me some advice please. I have tried to call A1 travel but am being held on an 0844 number 15 minutes at a time.

Many Thanks in advance.

Late booking fee is usually ticket on departure

ATOL protection is what it says, this is to protect you incase the airline folds

Is the holiday the same price inc these fees????

  • Hi Del

    Thanks for your help.

The total is £732 (including £14 debit card fee) - so it works out at £359 per person + £14 debit charge. It just seems strange that these costs were never spoken about on booking. I do not normally go package so that's why I am questioning them.

Is it common practice regarding the tickets then to collect them, don't you just get e-tickets with Thomson?

Also - do you know what the APC fee is please?

    Many Thanks

I think that the ATOL item is protection against the tour operator (not the airline) going bust and the APC (2x£2.50) is protection against the airline going bust.

APC is ATOL Protection Contribution http://www.thetravelmagazine.net/i-3498--airline-protection-atol-levy-to-rise-to-2-50.html

If the price quoted over the phone includes these fees then I don't understand what your issue is.
You were happy to pay £359 on the phone.
Are you saying you are unhappy as you don't like the way they break it down?
Surely if it's a good deal, then it's a good deal and it doesn't matter how they split it?

I can understand you being angry if it's additional cost, but if it's included then why does it matter?
  • Thanks for filling me on the breakdown Del and dzug 1.

    Hi Lisyloo

I don't believe I said I was 'angry' - this is something you have assumed. I was asking for help with breakdown questions I did not understand, and have now been informed thanks to other users.

I wasn't being judgmental at all and I'm sorry you've read my post that way.

I was trying to understand your query.
The reason I gave my free time to post to try to get to the bottom of your query was to try to help.

Please refrain from being so judgmental.

If it was just curiosity then that's absolutely fine.
I didn't say you were angry.
Please don't be so defensive and take others questions as criticism as it really wasn't meant that way xx
