Council tax should be abolished altogether. It is an unfair tax which takes little account of ability to pay. Why should somebody who has lived in a house for many years be forced to move when they retire simply to avoid taxation which they can no longer afford?
A serious review of local government funding needs to be undertaken to establish a system which reflects ability to pay and ensures that those who do pay are fairly represented and that councils are held accountable.

example house around corner 1sqm smaller same age similar value, Band D mine is Band E. Larger properties more expensive band D. !!!!!!!!!!!

What options are there available after the appeals process.

Didn't the valuation office redo a valuation in 2005 which was scrapped.

What do we get from a revaluation. Looking at it very simply; at the end of the day the council requires so much money to fund their operations the council tax fills this requirement.

1990 £100000 house gets put in Band D = £ 1000 a year

Houses have doubled in the last 20 years

2010 £200000 house gets put in Band D = £ 1000 a year.

We get all the expense of revaluation and the amount paid will typically stay the same
