Council tax should be abolished altogether. It is an unfair tax which takes little account of ability to pay. Why should somebody who has lived in a house for many years be forced to move when they retire simply to avoid taxation which they can no longer afford?
A serious review of local government funding needs to be undertaken to establish a system which reflects ability to pay and ensures that those who do pay are fairly represented and that councils are held accountable.0 -
Unfair system.
example house around corner 1sqm smaller same age similar value, Band D mine is Band E. Larger properties more expensive band D. !!!!!!!!!!!
What options are there available after the appeals process.
Didn't the valuation office redo a valuation in 2005 which was scrapped.0 -
What do we get from a revaluation. Looking at it very simply; at the end of the day the council requires so much money to fund their operations the council tax fills this requirement.
1990 £100000 house gets put in Band D = £ 1000 a year
Houses have doubled in the last 20 years
2010 £200000 house gets put in Band D = £ 1000 a year.
We get all the expense of revaluation and the amount paid will typically stay the sameMy DW and I are both MSE's
