Renault 'Keyless Go'.. anyone else have problems?
I am looking for some advice from fellow renault drivers please...
Back in 2006 I bought a '53' plate renault megane with 'keyless go', a system where you dont need to use the key to open, close or lock the car as long as it is in your bag/pocket etc.
I had nothing but problems with it- not opening, not starting etc, extensive investigations from renault couldnt find a problem and in the end I managed to get them to buy it back from me (it was still under warranty). In hindsight, we wondered if it had been that there was some interference in the waves or whatever they are called- i work in a hospital and i know people have had similar problems because of the satellites on the roof etc (one colleague has to push his motorbike down the road to start it!)
Recently, we decided to get a new cheaper car and oh found another of these meganes '52 reg for £1850 (he is in the motor trade), and he assured me i did not have keyless go. When the car arrived, it had keyless go (much to my annoyance!). The car needs about £600 spent on it, whch we already knew, for a service, cambelt, radio, air con pipe etc. Oh works in a garage so this is all being done as cheap as possible. Last week the battery ran down (my own fault) and the car locked up completely, we couldnt get in it or start it. Eventually we got it sorted, but it hasnt been the same since. On friday I couldn get in it at all, i used the key to undo the door manually but all of the other doors wouldnt unlock and then the alarm went off for ages, then i couldnt stop it or lock it up again. Nome of this has happened at work so its not the satellites, it happens at home. It has also been making a strange buzzing sound when I lock it, then if I unlock and lock again it goes away.
Basically, has anyone else had this problem? Surely it cant be just me being this unlucky? Or am I doing something wrong? Frequently, When I put my hand in the handle to unlock it nothing happens, even if i have the key outside of my bag and wave it around in front of the handle! Its so annoying!! Does anyone know if there is a way of disconnecting it, or if I am doing something wrong? I cant believe this has happened to me twice now, it must be me doing something wrong surely?
I really cant afford to spend all this money on the car for it to just be completely useless to me, which it is at the moment, I cant go anywhere in it in case we get stuck outside the car! However, I have already spent some money on it and will be gutted if it was just a waste. It really is a lovely car besides this- low mileage, good condition, etc and I wish it could just be fixed so that I can keep it!
Anyone got a miracle cure? :rotfl:

Do you, or any of your neighbours, have a wireless doorbell?0

You need to alert the hospital management to these satellites on the hospital roof.
They should not be there.
They should be hundreds of miles up in the sky.0 -
Our Megane had two replacement door handles in 6 months to try and fix the keyless entry, after the second change it was sold.0

Keith- thanks for the info, so glad its not just me! It's so annoying isn't it? You would have thought renault would be doing something about it....
Gloomendoom- good thinking! quite possibly the answer, we have one but our house is a long way from the car park sp doubt ours is the problem. I cant ask all the neighbours though, and even if i did i cant ask them to get rid of them. And this could hapen anywhere when i go out. Omg, this is such a nightmare!
Thanks for all the ideas!0 -

They should be hundreds of miles up in the sky.what, the hundreds of satellite dishes on the roof should not be there?
satellite dishes... you should've said that the first time.0 -
Assuming it's the same system as on my Laguna II - can't you just use the buttons on the card to unlock the doors without the keyless and then put the card in the slot to start, again without the keyless?0

The long buzzing you hear when the car is locked is the crash sensor on the bonnet catch that needs to have a little bit of rubber put on its nipple.0
