Can i claim on my credit card

I bought my parents a LCD TV for just under £400 on my credit card just over two years ago with an online company called Teleland.
They were offering there own free 5 year warranty with all TV’s, but it looks like they have ceased to trade and cannot find them on the net anymore and have had no luck with phoning them either.

The TV as developed a problem and might cost more to fix than what it's worth. I did want to use the 5 year warranty to get it fixed, so as the company broken a contract with me.
Could I claim on the credit card, is it section 75?

  • Not sure on the refund through S75. You may need to demonstrate that the tv is inherently faulty - after all it has worked for 2+ years without trouble. However, a more knowledgable individual will be able to advise on that...

    Teleland have ceased trading

I thought you had given up on this forum Giz1972?

From one of your recent posts...

Secondly, NO thanks! to the guys who spend mindless hours hiding behind a screen spurting acrimonious tosh because their tediously irksome lives makes them just frustratingly ineffectual.
Just being the following way to newbie's by offering no help and spending more time checking peoples grammar and mocking how comprehensible a thread is, just makes people not want to return.
It is so easy to amend others mistakes than to correct your own, as you are reading from second party view. When writing a few words, its easy to check. When writing long winded feeds, only trying to put your point across in your own words and in your head at that time and not forgetting items becomes more of a task, then adding to all this, I don't use a spellchecker or even read through it before I post it, just makes me a target for the illusional elitists.
So I bid this forum goodbye for what maybe sometime because of the secondly mentioned and leave them being contradictious and then worrying about their own worthiness of their entitlement to be in the forum dexterity club.
Oh, by the way, although my grasp of the English grammar isn't up to some of the elitists standards, at least I don't spend most of my day/night adding useless c*ap to threads instead of working or when I step outside my door I'm not treated like the invisible man/woman and the cockroach you guys are.
Oh! To the response Pedantic said, I am very qualified at my chosen profession and successful too! where I'm training the next generation.
So all you guys worrying about my p's and q's, just hang onto your spellcheckers and punctuality programs, so you can get off on this post.

Careful how you reply guys. :D

It sounds as though it ought to be covered by S75 - provision of warranty services that is.

Problem may be that your CC company may argue that it's two transactions. A TV - out of time - and a warranty. How much was the warranty? Zilch. Below the S75 limit.

Have you asked your CC company yet?
  • Thanks Guys,

I’ll make a call to my wife’s credit card company as I don't think my parents have any details of the insurer.
There was a problem with it just before last Christmas, this was with the screen, and it had to go back to the manufacturers repairers (done free). I made a call to these guys today. As it's out of warranty, my parents would have to pay for transit, to and from repair shop and they charge a £50 diagnosis fee. Good news is, if its a stuck key, then no parts and minimum labour charge, bad news is, new board costing as much as £200 plus labour. What are the chances of it being a stuck button? I think very slim.
Anyway, she’s taking it to a repair shop who only charges £7 to look at it tomorrow.

    Now then

    To Wealdroam,

I see you conveniently forgot to add this quote I made before the truthful above.

"First a thanks to all the guys with first rate knowledge and help towards this post."

I'm also a firm believer in giving people a second chance even if they have shown disdain towards me.
I also like the motto “if you haven't got anything good to say, don't say it"
So Wealdroam, that’s your answer, Hope this as been of some help to you and may help you in the future and have a nice day!!!!!.
