Hiya
In need of advice for a newcomer
I received a letter from Mercantile Data Bureau Ltd who have been instructed by Hillesden Sercurities for the recover of debt
Original debt £190.... now with charges £380.... 100% interest!
Can I get these charges reduced?
I have not had contact with any company regarding this debt. This debt company will pass this to a doorstep specialist to visit my home if I do not contact them? Arrrrrgggggh!
I have searched for a template letter requesting CCA but unable to find, and dont really know what Im asking for.
Can you please advise me on replying to this company asap
Many Thanks x

First things first - Knowing what they are like - when is the last time you paid or made any admission of this debt in writing?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Hi..Many thanks for the reply
I have had no contact with;
... original debt (Argos)
... dlc
... Mercantile Data Bureau (current collector of debt)
Since December 2008
I gave up my job to raise my son, did not make the payments and blocked it from my brain. I have no other debt and this debt puts a bad mark on my credit file,I want to resolve this now.
I have other payments (catulogue, O2 etc) that are ongoing which I have not missed and help my credit file
Mercandile Data Bureau, from what I can make out are profiling my account to pass to a doorstep specailist to visit my home address

OK - unfortunately it's not going to be statute barred... how long is it since you took the debt out and guessing it was a credit card? Did you apply for it online or in writing?
You could go down teh CCA route but if this is a recent debt they are likely to have the paper work - you could try negotiating a full and final settlement and ask them to remove the default but it seems to me that very few are willing to these days - rightly so as the default markers are there to inform other creditors of your credit history and if you have been a good or bad debtor... a settled default will count for far less than a non-settled one thoughHubby had one on his account and we still managed to remortgage at about the best rate at the time

It was a store card with argos, i havnt made a payment since 2008 or havnt acknoledged the dept since 2008. I signed a written contract with argos but this debt has been passed to 3/4 different debt collectors now
Should I phone this Mercantile Data Bureau and acknowlegde the debt as to try for a settlement figure?0
