8200m G graphics card

Hi, does anyone know if i add more ram to my compaq CQ-60, will it allocate more ram to the 8200m G graphics card? ive googled and googled and it and no one seems to know, if it does, does anyone know a cheap place to buy PC-6400 (400mhz) ram for a laptop? Cheers!

  • I found a review of your laptop on Amazon from a buyer which I think answers your question, he states:

"Ok I have an update, I bought an additional 2GB ram module for this and it has helped alot. Football Manager runs alot smoother now, as does browsing whilst playing FM2009. Also as the video card uses RAM for the memory, its seen a significant increase in gamming power, maybe not the latest, but older games pre 2006 should run decently."

You can buy 2GB PC6400 laptop RAM at Ebuyer - £31 incl VAT
  • Thanks for the reply, after running pc wizard it seems i have PC-6400 (400mhz) Ram installed, can my laptop support 800mhz? or will it just be clocked down to 400mhz if i dont remove the 1gb module? cheers!

Can you post the exact model number and or product number as there were a number of different configurations for the Presario CQ60.

Please also post the OS you use, XP or Vista?

If you're not sure what the exact product number is, see here.
  • the exact model is Compaq CQ60 305SA with a Wistron 303c motherboard. I remember reading somewhere that 400mhz ram is acctually doubled so its 800mhz in reality. I also use vista as an OS, not my choice :(. Heres what PC Wizard says about the ram module thats installed.

  • Ok, so the HP Compaq site confirms that your notebook can take up to a maximum of 4GB DDR2 RAM. You currently have only 1GB installed so your options are to replace the existing memory module with a 2GB one or go for the maximum 4GB by buying 2 x 2GB modules. Depends on how much you want to spend. I wouldn't recommend simply adding another 1GB module as mixing memory modules from different manufacturers can sometimes cause memory stability problems.

Either the Crucial or Kingston DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz 2GB modules listed on Ebuyer will do the job.

Instructions on how to replace the memory modules are included in this PDF doc from the HP/Compaq website.

Hi again, just having a bit of confusion over what ram to get on ebuyer, Whats the difference between CL5 and CL6? or will both fit into my laptop? (compaq CQ60 305SA), Ive looked on the website for specifications but they only say the "Dumbed down specs" If possible, would i be able to get a direct link to the 2gb product on ebuyer (PM if you cant post on the boards). Cheers again!

*Edit* Also, does the voltage need to be the same?

Here is the link to what you need:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158634

The price has gone up a couple of quid this week.

Order 1 or 2 depending on whether you want just 2Gb or maybe 4Gb.
