DLA - Mobility Element for 3 year olds

Hi
Around 2 weeks ago we were sent a new claim pack for our son. He already receives DLA Care element at Highest rate and will be 3 next May. I knew we would be contacted when he approached 3 regarding a possible claim for mobility but not sure why they have contacted us so early. His existing claim is until May 2012.
Do we just have to complete the mobility paperwork or do we have to fill in the paperwork covering the care element as well. I am worried we could lose his existing benefits if we dont fill in all the paperwork.
Does anyone have any experience of completing a childs mobility claim?
Thanks

When looking at a DLA claim, the decision maker (DM) will look at the whole award - not the component that the claimant has requested they look at. When I've done renewal claims, I've always filled in the care and mobility parts.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

this is what happened to our son many years ago before he was 3,dla wrote to us stating when he is 3 we can apply for mobility,we had a 1 year plus to go still on care component so we filled in the whole form again and they reviewed both components and got awarded both as a fresh claim.0
