Comet failing to fix machine with warrenty

Hello,

We got a washing machine a few years ago from comet via the family fund scheme (they paid for it but the machine had to have a minimum of 5 year warrenty).

The machine broke down while still in warranty and we immediately informed comet, so said they would come and fix it). The following Friday they arrive, the guy looks at it and says it needs a new thing (sorry 'thing' isn't too technical lol).

So he leaves and a few days later they phone and say the bit they ordered has arrived and will come back the following Friday (week after prev visit). The guy comes, puts it on then realises that the belt is broken, so that also needs replaced.

Again the following Friday (what is it with them and exactly 1 week later lol - this is the Friday just gone)) they come and the guy realises the belt is too small.

We are now awaiting a call back from them confirming they have the right belt. My mum was the one speaking to them, and while she talks !!!!!! about them to me, she is polite and understanding on the phone...

Luckily for me she goes on holiday for 2 weeks tomorrow, so I will be speaking to them next. Can I demand compensation as they are failing to fix the machine? I have a disabled brother who needs clothes washed everyday and its a pain in the !!! going to the laundrette or getting friends to wash them. I will be shouting at them, venting ALL of my anger and f'ing in every sentence, just to show how p!ssed I am.

I understand they are helping, but why couldn't they find all the problems on the 1st visit , order them and fix on the next visit? How can they order the wrong damn size? Surely we can demand compensation for our trouble (stress, money spent at laundrette ect)?

Thanks.

I'd guess you'll be shouting and swearing at a continuous beep tone after a few seconds as the other person hangs up on you , if you want them to help you then it'll be best if you state your concerns but stay calm and polite.

Agreed, they'll just accuse you of being abusive...if you must rant and rave (and I totally understand the frustration) be polite BUT firm, and take no carp, they sound nothing less than incompetent.

  • dear comet customer representative could you possibly take a look at my thread please
  • I rue the day I purchased a Compaq desktop from Comet 7 weeks ago. Last night it would not boot up, it's faulty!!!!

I returned it to Comet today, with original packaging and receipt.

In a nutshell the manager refused an exchange or refund, quoting that the 28 day day rule had elapsed.

I quoted the Sale of Goods act 'fit for purpose' but he stonewalled the issue.

After trying to fob me off by directing me to Compaq I attempted to telephone Comet HQ ( manager challenged me) but gave up after the automated merry go round.

In the end I had no option but to leave the faulty PC with Comet for them to send for repair.....this process could take upto 3 weeks (maybe longer, maybe sooner....)

The whole experience has left me very bitter towards Comet as I am now massively inconvenienced and there is grey area regarding what is deemed a 'reasonable' time to wait for a repair.....

Any tips from anybody who has had a similar experience with Comet?
