Check out some of the review sites. https://www.dpreview.com usually provide a comparison chart for a new model against the previous model so you might find it helpful.
  • one of them TZ10 I think. has GPS if you don't want that then beware as it will probably be a big drain on the battery

I don't know about the others, but the TZ7 is a stunning bit of kit, I'm an almost complete novice with cameras (I tend to leave them on "auto"), but even under fairly difficult conditions (variable artificial lighting, and poorly aimed) it normally takes good pics :)

The face detection works nicely, and the anti-shake is a god send at times, such as when i'm trying to take a "close" shot of something I can't get close to :)
It also copes well with close up shots (I often take pics of miniatures).

My one managed about 400+ (at best res) pictures yesterday on a single charge, although it's now showing one bar on the battery:) (I'll have to recharge it tonight).
  • I have a TZ6, ok so I know you haven't listed that but it's from the same family. Great camera and I too am mighty impressed with battery life. Bought an in car charger cheap off eBay but not needed yet!

As stated above, check the different specs as I think you will find there is little to tell between them, but GPS may be a major boon for say a geocacher but a gimmick that isn't used by someone else. Also sometimes there is a 1mp difference which most people never notice as they never blow their images up to poster size anyway!

Important thing here is they all have the Leica lens. Check the different specs and decide how important the differences are to you - only you can decide. They are all great cameras.
  • I've actually just bought the the TZ10 yesterday after a lot of deliberation.

The TZ10 is available from Amazon at £231.98 saving £117.02 off their pre-order price of £349.00. The TZ7 is available at £179.99. Finally the TZ8 is available for £196.50.

The TZ7 and TZ10 are both great pieces of kit and the TZ10 is essentially the TZ7 with a few tweaks here and there. It's got the same metal body, same screen, same lens however there's now GPS, better image stabilisation and for marketing purposes more mega pixels. The GPS feature by default will update it's location and retrieve new satellite info even when the camera is turned off so if this isn't required I'd suggest you put it into Airplane mode which saves battery. However if this is the case then there's an argument as to whether you really need the TZ10 and whether the TZ7 is sufficient...

The TZ10 fixes a design flaw on the TZ7 where your finger has to reach over the mode wheel to press the shutter. The slightest touch on the mode wheel can prevent you from taking a picture.

The TZ10 also has a few more modes which allow expert photographers greater choice on the various different options you'd expect with an SLR and not a compact.

See a comparison of the 3 cameras here:

    N.B.:

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 = TZ7
    Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 = TZ10
    Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS5 = TZ8

I'd also suggest reading this thread. There's also a round up of reviews in the first post and I can recommend reading the photographyblog.com review. Here's my post with a description of what I've decided to buy and why.

The TZ8 has a smaller screen than the other two, 230k pixels compared to 460k (less detail), no HDMI output, no GPS unlike the TZ10, no AVCHD movie mode (similar to MPEG but AVCHD has a lot smaller file size). MPEG also limits you to a 2 GB file size, roughly 8 minutes compared to AVCHD which limits you to 15 minutes.

I'd suggest if GPS isn't something that bothers you then go for the TZ7 over the TZ8.
